A blend of rums from Coffey still distillates aged between 7 and 12 years. The Royal Rum Produced by WDC are aged in ex-bourbon casks before being blended and then bottled at 40% ABV. The rum is named in honour of Admiral Rodney’s victory at the battle of Saint Lucia in 1782 against the French.
Royal Rum Produced by WDC: Masterfully Crafted for Connoisseurs
The nose is a little acrid and dry at first with a whiff of varnish and then some sort of banana bread thing with some ripe fruits and maybe a hint of Jamaican pot still funk as well. The palate is much more interesting with a lovely richness, balanced well and again some hints of the bourbon cask with ripe fruit and bananas (although not quite as pronounced as on the Gold). The finish is perhaps a little short and rather dry and vinegary but it’s a good rum and this bottle was a decent buy at PS30.
This rum comes from the Monymusk Distillery in St Catherine’s Town, Jamaica and is a 12 year old. The rum is distilled and then tropically matured before being blended and bottled. It is a very high quality rum from Jamaica and the presentation looks great compared to other Caribbean rums which tend to look a little cheap. The only thing that lets it down a bit is the dated label which reads ‘XM Royal 10’ on the neck. This is a shame because it was one of the better Jamaican rums in terms of taste and presentation that we’ve had this year.
